LivED Experience Counselling

Our Counsellors will walk this journey along-side you compassionately, bringing a focus to the here and now, and help you find a way to strengthen your connection between mind, body and spirit.

One:One Counselling includes;

  • Weekly sessions
  • Uncovering new activities and coping skills, and
  • Facilitating personal goals.

This offering will be fluid and regularly reassessed with you. Most importantly, this relationship will be co-constructed to empower you to connect with and strengthen your ‘healthy self.’ There is no lock-in contract for our counselling. Instead, we gently encourage individuals to honour their commitment to receiving support and believe this commitment is key to recovery.

Carer & Loved One Counselling

Our LivED Experience Counsellors also offer support for carers and loved ones of individuals experiencing disordered eating, eating disorders, or body image concerns.

Counselling for carers and loved ones may involve:

  • Supporting you as a 'person'
  • Helping you reconnect with who you are outside of caring for your loved one
  • Exploring your emotional triggers and coping strategies
  • Cultivating self-care and emotional regulation
  • Meeting you “where you are at”
  • Providing lived experience insights and evidence-informed information on eating disorders and recovery (for example, appropriate language to use with your loved one).

Weekly Group Counselling

Our weekly LivED Experience Group Counselling sessions are virtual and open to anyone across Australia. The sessions cover topics focused on recovery, disordered eating/eating issues, body image concerns, and suggestions from our group participants. These sessions may include psychoeducation around the development of these issues, positive coping strategies, and cultivating a sense of community through giving individuals a safe place to connect with others through shared experiences.

This offering provides a safe & supportive environment to connect with others on the recovery journey. LivED Experience Group Counselling can:

  • Help you feel you are not alone
  • Provide a support network and a way to socially connect
  • Create a safe space to share experience and gain new insights
  • Help you brainstorm options to overcome challenges
  • Provide you encouragement along your recovery journey.

Session: Thursday 9.30am -10.30am AEST

There are no program lengths for this offering. Individuals are invited to engage in a flexible come & go fashion whereby they are welcome to attend as frequently or infrequently as is supportive for them.

Introducing our LivED Experience Counsellors

Claire Martin

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
~ Anais Nin

Underpinned by a person-centred, strengths-based approach, Claire operates from a place of deep respect for the individuals she is fortunate enough to work with.

She appreciates that everyone has the right to give meaning to and shape their lives and believes that within them lies the resources to do so.

Claire’s therapeutic approach is compassion focussed, trauma-informed, holistic, and unified by an appreciation for the inherent human needs for connection, safety, choice and sense of self.

Claire seeks to walk alongside individuals, working together to create a space dedicated to uncovering uniqueness, fostering hope and celebrating growth, so that they may integrate such intentions into their lives outside of the therapeutic space.

"Promise me you'll always remember... you're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and loved more than you know."
~ Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh

I come to this role with lived experience of my own eating disorder, as well as having cared for a family member through their own recovery. This enables me to relate to your personal journey, whilst also acknowledging that our experiences are unique. I will support you to identify your own strengths and reflect on your progress whilst we navigate your recovery goals together.

Each day we meet and honour the land in which we gather. Here on the land of the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara Peoples. We would like to acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and culture and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. We pledge our ongoing solidarity with the traditional owners and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, in their struggle for recognition of sovereignty, historical truths and justice.
